Elvis Lives

review by Julie Lary

Last night, Elvis was in the building! In fact, more than 20 Elvises were in the building. I'm talking about the 12th Annual Elvis Invitational that was held January 24th at Club Motor. The night began with a set by professional Elvis impersonator, Steve Adams and Kentucky Rain, one incredible band. Next off, the emcee came out and started the parade of Elvises. All night long Kentucky Rain backed each participant in the Invitational. Each Elvis came out and did a number, from young Elvis, to Comeback Special Elvis, to 70s Elvis. Each participant was amazing and I never envied the judges, they had a hard time ahead of them.

Club Motor was very much a part of this Elvis Invitational. They were serving "Elvis Sandwiches" in the bar. My husband had an "Elvis Sandwich" which consisted of peanut butter, bananas, honey, and bacon, fried in butter. Made like a grilled cheese sandwich, the report I got was that it was "strange but really good."

This event had several sponsors, too, including Zesto's, Seattle Dream Homes, Piecora's, Archie McPhee, and Not A Number Cards & Gifts. There was a table chock full of Elvis goods, including Pez dispensers and tins of mints, all Elvis themed.

After an evening filled with Elvis, there were two first place winners of the Invitational. 12 year competitor, Helen Anne Gately and former winner, Dino Macris. There were ten finalists and there were some lovely prizes. I think everyone who performed did an incredible job and I'll definitely be back for the 13th Annual Elvis Invitational next year.
